Building Partnership to maker your DREAMS COME TRUE

Acoustic ceiling tiles (ACT) are a staple in commercial and institutional construction. They offer clean aesthetics, sound control, and easy access to mechanical systems. But poor installation can turn a ceiling into a liability.

t Grupo Contreras, we’ve seen—and corrected—many ACT mistakes across Tennessee and Georgia. Here are the most common issues and how we make sure they never happen on our jobs.

Mistake 1: Not Checking Level Before Installation

Uneven grid installation leads to wavy, misaligned ceilings. This happens when crews skip laser leveling and rush into setting perimeter trim and hangers.
→ We use high-precision laser levels from the first step. Reference lines are marked and checked continuously during the build.

Mistake 2: Ignoring the Tile Layout (Modulation)

ACT systems have defined modulations (24×24, 24×48, etc.). Altering the grid for convenience results in awkward cuts and layout issues—especially around lights and diffusers.

→ We always follow the reflected ceiling plan or get client approval before making adjustments. Any changes are intentional and aesthetic

Mistake 3: Poor Coordination with Other Trades

Lighting fixtures, sprinklers, diffusers—if not coordinated properly, they’ll clash with the tile grid or require on-the-fly fixes that hurt quality.

→ We coordinate closely with MEP trades and use clash detection when available. Our goal is seamless integration, not conflict.

Mistake 4: Weak Grid Anchorag

Insufficient anchoring causes movement, sagging, or safety risks—especially in high-traffic environments like schools or hospitals.

→ We install using certified wire, clips, and anchors per manufacturer specs, ensuring long-term performance and safety.

Mistake 5: Dirty Hands, Poor Cuts, and Sloppy Finish

Stained tiles, rough cuts, and misaligned panels ruin the finished look—even if everything is technically “in place.”
→ Our teams wear gloves, use the right tools, and inspect each tile before turning the space over.

ACT ceilings are not just a finish—they’re a system that requires planning, coordination, and precision. At Grupo Contreras, we install ceilings that look good, work well, and last long.
